DISCHARGE INSTRUCTIONS FOLLOWING FISTULOTOMY

Anal fistula refers to a chronic, abnormally channeled-like chronic infection that begins inside the anus and extends outside onto the skin around it. This is often the result of an existing anal infection. A fistula is a condition that affects approximately 50% of those who have anal abscesses. Fistulas tend to be short and simple. You can open the tunnel and allow it to heal slowly. Read more about DISCHARGE INSTRUCTIONS FOLLOWING FISTULOTOMY below.

Sometimes a patient may have multiple fistulas, or the tunnel may cross a large portion of the sphincter muscles. Each patient’s surgical treatment must be tailored to the specific fistula and its anatomy. The surgeon can’t always predict what needs to be done without performing anesthesia because everyone knows more. The operative procedure may change depending on the results of the surgery. Sometimes a fistula may require multiple surgeries to treat. Visit the best Fistula Doctor in Kolkata.

A simple fistulotomy involves opening the tract and allowing it to heal. Sometimes, sutures can be used to close the wound but not completely. A small drain, called a seton, may be used if the fistula is too large or difficult to open completely. The surgeon will discuss how to manage this in the future.

Discharge Instructions: You may feel mild to moderate discomfort or pain in your rectal region after a fistulotomy. Other symptoms include constipation, difficulty urinating and possible rectal bleeding. Here are some guidelines to help you care for your procedure.

Home Care

Rectal surgery can cause some bleeding. To keep the underclothing clean, a sanitary napkin or gauze can be used to cover the anal opening. The pad can be removed if there is no bleeding or discharge. Call the office immediately if there is any bleeding or bleeding that is persistent or extensive with the passage of clots.

Fistulotomy can cause difficulty in urinating. This is not common, but it could be due to spasms of the urinary system that result from the pain after the surgery. The best way to get the pain under control is to relax the sphincter so that the urine can pass. Warm sitz baths can be taken in either a tub or a sitz basin. While you soak, relax your bladder and urinate in the water.

Notify the doctor if you have difficulty urinating within the first eight hours following surgery. If you are unable to urinate within the first eight hours after surgery, call your doctor. The bladder catheter will be fitted and left in place for two days. You can call the office to have it removed. After your surgery, you should drink lots of water and fruit juices such as prune juice.

Important Instrucations

A prescription will be issued for you to take pain medication. For this medication, follow the instructions of your doctor. If the pain subsides after a few days, you can use plain Tylenol to relieve any remaining discomfort. Take your pain medication with food to avoid an upset stomach.

Follow the instructions exactly. Do not exceed the recommended dosage and don’t take the drug more frequently than prescribed. For advice, if the drug is not working, contact the office. These or any other prescription drugs should not be shared with anyone else as the drug could have a totally different effect on someone for whom it was not prescribed.

Opioid analgesics can cause dizziness, lightheadedness or drowsiness. The drug can cause dangerous side effects, so it is important that anyone who uses these drugs does not drive or use machines. Side effects include nausea and vomiting, especially when you first start taking the medication.

These side effects may not disappear after the first few doses. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions. Side effects include nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness, and vomiting. If you experience these side effects, you may be able to lie down immediately after taking the medication. Ensure you are taking the Best Treatment for Fistula
