There are total 4 main categories in which scent families are divided and they are:

Fresh

Each family is further divided into its subfamilies. It is to be noted that every scent family has different set of characteristics. Floral oriental

It has subtle spice notes

 Soft, floral notes mixed with incense and warm spices.

Woody oriental

Woods Family

These perfumes are usually warm and rich, mixing incense-like fragrances like sandalwood and patchouli with drier notes like cedar.  Notes in this family are termed as coniferous or woody and bitter. The warm notes are mixed with fresh notes like floral or citrus. The Woods family is further divided into three subfamilies.

Mossy Woods

 It is sweet, smooth and earthy like oakmoss, and amber.

Dry Woods

 Blazing and smoky mixed with leather aromas.

  • These are the subfamilies in which Woods is divided. It has some common family notes as well that are Patchouli, Vetiver, and Sandal.

Fresh Family

It represents clean and bright scents. The notes of this family are herby, citrusy and oceanic. It is mostly used in men’s fragrance. Fresh scents of this family are mixed with spicy notes to create a strong fragrance. The Fresh family is further divided into four subfamilies.

Citrus

 Tangy notes like mandarins or bergamot.

Green

 It smells like a freshly and newly mowed lawns and crinkled green leaves.

Aromatic
