9 Mistakes to Avoid When You Are Planning a Wedding

Date:

When you are planning a wedding, it is supposed to be the happiest day of your life. However, if you do not end up putting enough forethought and planning into it, you can end up in a situation in which it quickly starts to become a nightmare. Taking this into account, there are lots of mistakes that you should be avoiding at all costs. It is these that are going to be discussed in a higher level of detail in the following blog post. By learning from the mistakes that have been made time and time again in days gone by, you can certainly do a lot to make your wedding as special as you would like it to be.

  1. Not Giving Yourself Enough Time to Plan

The best wedding venues tend to book up months or even years in advance. Therefore, you certainly need to make sure that you have given yourself enough time to plan. Otherwise, you can end up in a situation in which everything is left to the last minute and you are seriously struggling to find somewhere that you want to get married. Not only this, but you are going to need to do a lot in terms of getting the guestlist together. You have to remember that people have busy lives and calendars that book up if you are not careful. You could end up in a situation in which not as many people come as you had hoped.

  1. Letting Other People Dictate Your Guestlist

It is inevitably going to be the case that some family members – and perhaps even friends – are going to try and get involved in the guestlist planning. As a direct result of this, you can end up with people attending that you did not want. However, you need to have the pure levels of confidence that are involved in telling people that you are the one who is getting married and you do not want people to come who are not part of your initial plans. Otherwise, you can end up with arguments and other unpleasant events that could have been avoided if you were just a little bit more careful with your invite list.

  1. Inviting Too Many People

There has already been one potential invite problem that has already been discussed, but another one that could end up impacting you in a negative way is inviting too many people. In this situation, you can assume that a certain number of people are going to RSVP ‘no’, only to find out that they end up attending anyway. Therefore, you should certainly try to get some responses as early as possible. You can then get a good general idea of who is going to turn up and who is not. As a direct result of this, it is going to be much easier to invite more people if this is something that you would like to do further down the line. Otherwise, you may simply end up in a situation in which you have a smaller event than the one that you were initially intending.

  1. Not Exploring All of Your Options

There is no doubt that you will have all sorts of different options in front of you when you are planning a wedding, and it certainly makes sense to explore all of these in as much detail as you possibly can. For example, you may want to look into having a yacht wedding as this will be the type of event that can really live long in the memory of people. When you are in the initial planning stages, it is certainly worth going in from the point of view that nothing is going to be off the table. This way, you are going to have the most imaginative wedding that you possibly can. This all comes back to ensuring that you have enough time to plan it out. This way, you can start to narrow off your options as time goes on and the big day starts to get closer and closer.

  1. Failing to Have a Plan B for Weather

Ultimately, if you are going to have the type of event in which you are going to be using outdoor space, there is always the possibility here that the weather is not going to play ball in the way that you would like it to. Therefore, you need to make sure that you have a plan B in place. Otherwise, you can end up in a situation in which you are sorely disappointed as the day can get rained out. At the same time, it may be another situation that you have not planned for properly. For example, you may be intending to host the wedding in the winter and are expecting to get snow. However, if this is not the case, you do not want to have planned all of your activities based around this particular assumption.

  1. Not Hiring the Right Wedding Planner

There is no doubt that planning a wedding can get awfully challenging if you attempt to do it all by yourself. For this reason, many people go down the path of hiring a wedding planner. However, if you are going to cover the type of bills that it is inevitably going to bring on, you need to make sure that you have taken the time to consider and hire the right person for the job. Ideally, you will be able to get some sort of personalized recommendation as it is much more likely that you will not be disappointed in this way. Alternatively, you could check out some of the online reviews that are readily available and out there. However, it is certainly important that you are careful to not only take the most positive and negative options out there. Instead, you should be looking to get the average to ensure that you are taking the temperature that is out there.

  1. Failing to Get Different Quotes

You are bound to spend a lot of money on your wedding – no matter how large or small you attempt to make it. However, this does not mean that you should be spending more than you strictly need to. A big part of keeping your costs down comes back to ensuring that you have a number of different quotes that you can compare and contrast. Otherwise, it is all too easy to end up in a situation when you do not have the fullest picture of what is going on. As a direct result of this, you can end up getting ripped off in a way that could have been avoided.

  1. Comparing Too Much with Other Weddings

You need to accept that your big day is your own, and while it may be tempting to try and compare and contrast with others that have come and gone, it is never going to be exactly the same. While it may be a good idea to take some inspiration from days gone by, you do not want to be too influenced. If you are, this is more than likely to lead to the road to disappointment. At the other end of the scale, you should not simply assume that your day is going to be bigger and better without putting in the necessary groundwork.

  1. Keeping Traditions for the Sake of it

While there are bound to be some traditions that make you happy and you enjoy including, it is also the case that there are going to be others that are not quite as important to you. Therefore, you should think carefully about the ones that are worth including and the ones that are not as important. Bear in mind that it is your own big day and should be treated as such. There is certainly no point in wasting time and money on certain rituals that do not have much in the way of value to you.

If you avoid all of these mistakes when you are planning a wedding, you make it much more likely that you are going to have the day of your dreams. To begin with, the point to keep on reinforcing is that you need to give yourself enough time to plan the day in a high level of detail. Otherwise, you can easily end up in a situation in which everything is simply rushed and you do not have the type of day that lives long in the memory. Another one of the major points to bear in mind is that you should make the day your own in any way that you can. Essentially, this means not being too influenced by other people if you can strictly help it. Not only this, but you should also ensure that you are only following the traditions that remain as important to you as possible. Take the time to ensure that you are choosing the right wedding planner and comparing and contrasting different services and quotes.
