Peonies have long earned the title of the popular favourite among summer flowers. They are highly valued for large buds with many graceful petals. And peonies are very much loved by those who are going to marry – with them you get the most delicate bouquets of the bride.

Where did the peony-like roses come from?
The charming peony-shaped roses were created by a breeder from the UK named David Austin. His father was a gardener, and from a young age, David decided to follow in his footsteps. When he was 18, he acquired a small collection of old garden roses and several tea roses. Initially, he just wanted to grow them separately, but then he came up with an idea that would change his life. David decided to create a hybrid between the two species.
As a result, they turned out into roses, which are now called peony-shaped. They combined the best features of the crossed varieties. From the old roses they got their beauty and dizzying aroma. Tea roses gave them an impressive ability to bloom again.
The discovery of David Austin changed the floral industry. Thanks to the Rose Breeder, the scent and disease resistance were restored. Cut flowers also became easier to transport to other cities and countries as they became hardier.
How do distinguish a peony from a peony-shaped rose?
