SBI Clerk Exam – An Overview of the Examination


SBI Clerk Exam consists of Preliminary and Mains stage. Prior to joining the job, candidates are required to appear for a local language test. State Bank of India (SBI) Clerk Examination is conducted to recruit candidates for the post of Junior Associates (Sales and Customer Support), Cashiers, Depositors etc. SBI Clerk is a national level exam conducted once in a year. 

The SBI Clerk Preliminary examination is for a duration of one hour. The SBI Clerk Mains Examination is for a duration of 2 hours and 40 minutes. The Preliminary examination will cover Numerical Ability, Reasoning Ability, and English Language. The SBI Clerk Mains examination will cover Quantitative Ability, General English, Financial/General Awareness, Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, & Computer Aptitude. SBI Clerk examination will conducted in English and Hindi language.

The SBI Clerk Preliminary examination is for a maximum of 100 marks and SBI Clerk Mains examination is for a maximum of 190 marks.SBI Clerk Notification for 2021 is yet to released. SBI Clerk Notification will provide details on online application form, last date to apply online, SBI Clerk preliminary examination date, SBI Clerk Mains Examination date, the date on which final results will be announced. In SBI Clerk 2020 notification, the vacancies was more than 8000, spread all over India.

SBI Clerk Preliminary Examination

For SBI Clerk Preliminary Examination, the syllabus for Reasoning section is coding-decoding. Seating arrangement, puzzles, alphanumeric series, tabulation, syllogism, data sufficiency etc.  The syllabus for numerical ability section on SBI Clerk Preliminary examination are ratio & proportion. Number systems, Work & Time, Time & Distance, Profit & Loss, Mixtures & Alligations, Surds & Indices, Probability, Permutation and Combination, Sequence & Series, Percentage, Mensuration. The Syllabus for English language section is paragraph completion, cloze test, error spotting, multiple meaning, para jumbles, reading comprehension.

SBI Clerk Mains Examination

For SBI Clerk Mains Examination, the syllabus for computer awareness section are important abbreviations, internet, networking. MS Office, DBMS, Software, Hardware. The syllabus for the reasoning ability section of the Mains examination are statements and assumptions, blood relations, syllogism, inequalities, direction sense. Puzzles, ranking, machine output or input. The syllabus for general or financial awareness syllabus are sports, schemes of state and central governments. Awards, honours, currencies of different countries, capitals of different countries, awards, honours, different dance forms of India. Constituencies of different ministers, thermal power stations, hydroelectric power stations, solar and wind power plants, nuclear power stations. Latest developments in banking industry, latest developments in financial industry, authors of different books.

The Total number of questions in SBI Clerk Preliminary examination are 100. It can further bifurcated as – Reasoning and Numerical Ability will have 35 questions each. English section will have 30 questions. The Total number of questions in SBI Clerk Mains Examination will be 190. The General English section will be for a duration of 35 minutes and the number of questions are 40. The General/financial awareness section will be for 35 minutes duration. The Quantitative Aptitude section will be for a duration of 45 minutes. The total duration of the examination is 2 hours 40 minutes.

On the day of the examination, candidates must carry an SBI Clerk Admit Card to the examination centre. Use of mobile phones, calculators strictly prohibited inside the examination hall. Candidates must carry one photo identification card, it could be passport, PAN Card. Driving license, bank passbook, identity card issued by school or college authorities.
