Typical Types of Acne and How to Treat Them

Date:

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions that people face and can be both frustrating and embarrassing. Its severity can range from mild to severe. There are several different types of acne – some more serious than others – and it’s important to know what type you have in order to get the best Acne treatment for your particular issue.

Here are 4 common types of Acne and how to treat them:

1. Blackheads (comedones)

Blackheads are among the mildest forms of acne and tend to occur most frequently on the face, chest, and back. Blackheads look like small black or grey dots with a tiny dark dot in the center; this is caused by dirt and oil getting caught beneath the outer layer of skin and oxidizing when exposed to air.

Due to their location on your face, they tend to be more noticeable than other types of acne, so it’s important that you keep them under control. While many people believe that picking at your nose will help get rid of blackheads, it usually ends up causing more damage than good. Most people would stop touching their nose if it hurt when they do it! If you’re determined to remove blackheads, try to resist the urge to touch them and use one of these treatments instead.

2. Whiteheads (closed comedones)

Whiteheads are another mild form of acne that is similar to blackheads in appearance, but they are actually quite different. Blackheads occur when dirt and oil get trapped beneath the outer layer of skin where air oxidizes it, turning it black.

Conversely, whiteheads occur when this process doesn’t happen, leaving the surface beneath the skin clear while the oils begin building up within your pores until they burst through onto your face. This tends to make them more noticeable than other types of acne because you can see them starting to emerge from underneath your skin before rupturing on the surface. Whether you have blackheads or whiteheads, the treatment options for acne remain pretty much the same.

3. Pimples (papules)

Pimples are one of the most common types of acne and occur quite frequently on the face, back and shoulders. Anyone who has had a pimple before knows that they hurt! They start out as small red bumps that swell up overnight and cause a massive amount of irritation – this is because a pore gets clogged with sebum (oil), dead skin cells, and bacteria which all start multiplying rapidly inside it to create an infection.

When people feel these painful bumps emerging from beneath their skin, they tend to go straight to popping them. This is not recommended since the puss builds up beneath your skin and could cause permanent scarring if it is broken and exposed.

4. Cysts (Nodules)

Cysts are perhaps the most serious form of acne because they can leave behind serious scars if not treated properly. By this, we mean cysts that occur deep beneath the skin as opposed to those that appear as red bumps on your skin’s surface.

In general, cysts will start out as small lumps beneath your skin that then become inflamed, form ahead at their tip, and eventually rupture from underneath the surface bringing about an infection that causes significant pain or bleeding if left untreated. If you have a cyst growing beneath your skin, you need to see a dermatologist quickly so they can drain it and prevent it from becoming even worse.

Conclusion

The best thing you can do is to get a professional opinion on what type of Acne treatment will work for your skin. If you are unsure or hesitant, it may be worth consulting with an expert before starting any treatments. Knowing the right course of action beforehand could save someone from making a mistake that has serious consequences in the future.
