What are the Best Foods for Erectile Dysfunction?

Many men experience erectile dysfunction (ED) at some point in their lives. It causes a great deal of stress, but it can be treated. Most people associate ED with age or relationship problems, but many kinds of issues can cause it. The male reproductive system is directly affected by the man’s physical and mental health. This is why many men who suffer from ED also tend to have pre-existing chronic conditions, like cardiovascular diseases or diabetes, or mental health issues, like depression and anxiety.

Medication is the most commonly used solution to ED, and there are many sildenafil and cheap viagra options to be found. However, medication is not the first line of defence against ED. There are other ways the risk of ED can be reduced more naturally, and food is a big part of it.

How does food even help?

Depending on the severity of ED, improving your diet and overall health can go a long way in turning things around. People suffering from mild ED may see a very noticeable improvement this way. Whilst men with more acute ED may need medication, it is always good to supplement it with the right foods for best results.

The way food helps is through ensuring ED the right nutrients. The best nutrients, in this case, can be Nitrates, zinc, L-Arginine (a type of amino acid) and antioxidants.

All these nutrients help improve blood flow, muscle relaxation and natural testosterone production in your body. This, in turn, makes it easier for men to get and maintain an erection.

Foods that help against ED

Below is a list of some of the foods that are rich in these essential nutrients and antioxidants.

  1. Spinach. It is known to have high levels of folic acid. A study has shown that men with low levels of folic are a source protein that contains omega 3 fatty acids. These are good fats that help blood flow, hence leading to better erections.
  2. Watermelon. It has an amino acid called L-citrulline, which dilates blood vessels, stimulates better blood flow, and can thus help with ED.
  3. Pistachios. They contain arginine proteins that improve blood circulation and may help with ED.
  4. Tomatoes. They contain lycopene, an antioxidant that reduces heart disease risk and improves sexual health. Tomatoes also have Vitamin C, a deficiency of which has been found in cases of ED.

Some other foods that may help against ED include; Lettuce, Oysters & Other Shellfish Proteins, Cocoa, Dark Chocolate, Blackberries, Oatmeal Pomegranate juice, Avocados, and Bananas.

These foods also tend to have many secondary benefits in keeping at bay a number of other underlying health conditions, like heart disease and diabetes, which are often associated with ED.

Foods to Avoid

To have a complete diet, it’s not enough to just have healthy foods while continuing to maintain an intake of unhealthy foods. A proper good diet involves avoiding the overuse of certain food groups, such as:

  1. Sugars
  2. Salts
  3. Refined carbohydrates
  4. Saturated fats
  5. Heavily processed or fatty meats.

All these mentioned foods in excess contribute to an unhealthy cardiovascular system.

Some foods are also known to directly impact sexual performance directly, and you should be especially careful about them. For example, alcohol — when consumed excessively — can decrease blood flow, reduce testosterone production, and depress the central nervous system. All of these factors can cause ED. Similarly, although seemingly healthy, soybeans can reduce the production of androgens and testosterone levels, which can cause ED. Liquorice can also lower your testosterone levels.

If your ED continues to persist and dietary changes do not seem to be making a difference, you should always consult a professional. A Doctor can make a thorough diagnosis and guide you on the treatment options. There are a number of ED medications, and the doctor will prescribe you the one that suits you best. It may either be Viagra (Branded or Generic Sildenafil), Sildenafil 100 mg UK (Generic Viagra), Tadalafil, Spedra, Generic Cialis, or Levitra. These medications may vary in their active ingredients, but they generally work the same way by improving blood flow to the penis.
