Essential oils have a long history and because they have been around for so long, they have a ton of uses. What you think you know about the uses of essential oils may not even be able to scratch the surface of the uses of essential oils. I love trying different kinds of stuff with essential and over time some of them have been successful. Hence, I created this article to show you 15+ things you do with essential oils.

To properly explain the uses of essential oils, I’ll be breaking this article into sections namely: Aromatherapy, Disinfecting and Cleaning, Health Benefits, and Other Uses.

Aromatherapy

  • Stay alert

I’m sure you didn’t know that essential oils can keep one alert. Don’t feel bad about it, a lot of people don’t know about it either. If you ever need to stay alert for anything just inhale a scent of rosemary essential oil to enhance your alertness.

  • Suppress cravings

If you crave food a lot even when you are not hungry. Then hold cinnamon essential oil close to your nose and inhale it deeply to help you suppress your food craving.

  • Improve restful sleep

Do you need more restful sleep? Rather than visiting the doctor to get you drugs to help you with restful sleep inhale essential oils with anti-inflammatory properties. A good example is peppermint oil

  • Enhance focus

Do you have a project you want to focus on? But you can get your mind to focus on the project you are on because your mind keeps wandering? Inhale the scent of spearmint oil or peppermint essential oil.

Health benefits 

  • Soothe the feet

Are your feet feeling sore? Soaking them is a great way to fix it. Before you go ahead to soak your feet, add Epsom salt and a few drops of peppermint oil to water. After doing that your feet will thank you.

  • UTI relief

The relief here is used to represent urinary tract infection. This condition can be treated medically but essential oils can be used to temporarily relieve you of the pain and discomfort that comes with mild urinary tract infections (UTI).

  • Relax muscles 

If you have sore muscles, add a drop or two of marjoram essential oil to a tablespoon of your favourite carrier oil and rub it on the muscle to soothe the sore muscle.

  • Ease headaches

Are you feeling a brain splitting headache or do you feel that sometimes? If you do, when next you are experiencing a troublesome headache, put a couple of teaspoons of fractionated coconut oil in a small roller bottle and add a few drops of peppermint oil and lavender oil. Shake the small bottle well so that they can properly and then roll it over your neck, forehead, and temples, for quick relief.

Disinfecting and cleaning 

  • Deodorize trash

Essential oils can be used to deodorizer your trash, how? Drop a few drops of lemon essential oil on a cotton ball and drop it at the bottom of your trash can before replacing the trash bag. Doing that will help in neutralizing the odour from your garbage. 

  • Dissolve Gunk

This is another scenario where lemon essential oils can be used. Lemon essential oils can be used to dissolve different kinds of stubborn messes. It’s great on chewing gum, wax, permanent marker, and glue.

  • Clean natural products

Before washing natural products like fresh fruits and vegetables, add a few drops of lemon essential oil to the water you’ll be using to wash them.

  • Clean microwaves 

Lemon oil is on a streak now. Lemon essential oils are great for cleaning microwaves. The great part is, it doesn’t only clean them, it’ll leave your microwave sparkling as though it was new.

  • Hair growth

This one is for the ladies and men who keep their hair. If you want your hair to grow faster and longer, add a few drops of rosemary oil to a teaspoon of your favourite carrier oil and apply the mixture to the scalp of your hair whenever you shampoo. After applying it, allow it to stay that way for a few minutes before you rinse it away.

  • Neutralize paint odours

Peppermint essential oils can be used to neutralize or control the smell from paint.

  • Wax melts

Do you know that you can use essential oils to make wax melts? If you didn’t know, now you do. Essential oils can be used to influence the scent of wax melts. Let’s say you want a lemon-scented wax melt, the essential oil to be used here is the lemon essential oil. With the festivities approaching, you’ll soon find the need to make Christmas wax melt or you might get to receive some as gifts from friends and loved ones.

  • Hair brightener

Are you looking for ways to brighten the colour of your hair? I bet you didn’t know you could do that with essential oils. To brighten the colour of your hair using essential oils, fill a small spray bottle with water and add a few drops of lemon essential oil. Spray the liquid on your hair, walk into the sun and wow people with your glowing hair.
