A Robustly manufactured ELECTRIC water heater is composed of a mild steel or stainless steel tank. The galvanized tank increases the life expectancy of the water heater. Equipped with two thermal circuit breakers and a low pressure circuit breaker Available powers from 6 to 72 KW. Model available for outdoor or indoor pools and whirlpools with CSA approved Two-year warranty.
HOW TO DETERMINE THE POWER OF YOUR ELECTRIC WATER HEATER:
Several factors influence the choice of the power of your water heater. These factors are: the surface of the swimming pool, the average depth, the exposure to winds, the length of the period of use, the nature of the soil, the temperature, etc. Considering normal climatic conditions for our regions, we can determine the power required of your water heater using an empirical method or using mathematical formulas.Â
1) Empirical methods:
From experience, we can determine the power of your water heater according to the annual period of use: 4-month period of use = 1.0kw per 4500 liters * 5-month period of use = 1.5kw per 4500 liters 6 month period of use = 2.5kw per 4500 liters * 4500 liters = 1000 imperial gallons
Mathematical method:
You can determine the power of your water heater as well as the rate of temperature rise for a given water heater power using the following mathematical formulas: Determination of the water heater power Power (kw) = Cte (W / Cpi²) X diff.temp. (C) x surf.pics. (ft²) (w / kw) CTE: Conversion constant W / C ft² Diff. Time. : Temperature difference between the water surface and the ambient air. Normally use between 5 C and 8 C HEAT LOSS Power of the water heater as a function of the surface area and the temperature difference Determination of the rate of temperature rise Elevation (C / hour) = Cte (Cpi³ / kWh) x Power ( kw) Surf. Pisc. (ft²) x depth. Average (pi)
PHYSICAL COMPONENTS OF AN ELECTRIC HEATER:
Here is the List of components an electric water heater have:
1- TANK ÂĽ ” thick galvanized mild steel tank made of Stainless Steel
2- WATER INLET 1½ ” NPT female threaded socket
3- WATER OUTLET 1½ ” NPT female threaded socket
4- PLUG DRAIN 1 ” NPT female threaded socket
5- THERMOSTAT Adjustable to within 2 F
6- TERMINALS Connection blocks for the water heater power supply
7- MAGNETIC CONTACTORS Enables the heating elements to be energized. The contactors are activated via the thermostat.
8- CONTROL TRANSFORMER Used only for 600 volts water heaters. Used to power the contactor coils.
9- TIME CONSTANT Allows sequential energization of the heating elements. (208 and 240 volt water heater with a power of 21kw and more)
10- FUSE HOLDER Protects the control circuit against overcurrents. (600 volt water heater only)
11- EARTHING TERMINAL Make sure that the earthing terminal is properly earthed to avoid any risk of electrocution.
12- LIGHT INDICATOR Indicates if the water heater is in operation.
13- THERMAL SENSOR When the water temperature is lower than the set point temperature, it then allows the heating elements to be switched on via the thermostat.
14- HEATING ELEMENT 600 volts three-phase element, with a power of 6 or 9 KW.
15- HEATING ELEMENT Single phase 240 volts element, with a power of 3 KW.
16- OPENING Opening with a diameter of 1½ ” allowing the passage of power cables.
17- THERMAL PROTECTION High temperature circuit breaker with automatic re-engagement.
18- THERMAL PROTECTION High temperature circuit breaker with manual reset.
19- PRESSURE SWITCH Low pressure switch in the tank of a water heater
TROUBLESHOOTING IN ELECTRIC WATER HEATERS:
If the water does not heat up and the indicator light is off then the electric heater may have a problem and we can use the following procedure for troubleshooting:
1- Check the supply voltage to the water heater
2- Check the condition of the main switch fuses and replace them, if necessary.
3- Check the high temperature circuit breaker with manual reset (See the physical diagram). 4- Check the correct operation of the thermostat.
5- For 600 volts water heaters, check the condition of the fuse located inside the control box and replace it, if necessary. If the water does not heat up sufficiently and the indicator light is on: 1- Check the supply voltage to the water heater 2- Check that the thermostat is operating correctly. 3- Check the heating elements. You should obtain the following measurements for the different types of elements. You can find the best electric water heaters here.
INSTALLATION OF ELECTRIC HEATER AND LOCATION:
The water heater can be installed both indoors and outdoors, ensuring that it is protected from the rain and that safety standards are met. However, it is strongly recommended to install this water heater out of direct sunlight, in the shade. The water heater must be placed at the outlet of the filter and installed in a horizontal position. A space of about 12 ” should be left around the water heater to facilitate maintenance. During installation, it is preferable to install a water diversion system to isolate the device (bypass). Plumbing connections must be made by professionals in the field.Â
ELECTRICITY: Electrical connections must be made by a qualified electrician.
PLUMBING: The water heater inlet and outlet are connected to two 1 ½ ” NPT female threaded sockets. A 1 ” NPT drain plug is required.
Note: Use only Teflon tape to seal the joints. Tighten the pipe connections securely and, if necessary, use the appropriate tools such as a pipe wrench.
It is recommended to isolate your water heater by a water diversion when performing a shock treatment when opening your pool to avoid damaging the components.
START-UP of WATER HEATER
1- Before switching on the water heater, activate the filter pump and make sure that there is no air left in the water heater. This is verified by the absence of air bubbles when the water returns to the pool.
2- Adjust the thermostat to the desired temperature. A more or less long time will be required to reach the desired temperature considering the initial temperature of the water, the climatic conditions etc.For safety, two safety thermostats (reset buttons) protect the device against excessive temperature rises of 120C in the tank. If you have to restart the water heater, press the red safety button. A third pressure switch (Pressure Switch) with low water pressure in the tank protects your device
Make sure the following things:
1- The ph of the water must be between, its alkalinity:, and its hardness:, otherwise there is a risk of premature deterioration of the internal parts. The warranty does not apply in these situations.
2- Make sure that the tank is filled with water before starting. Lack of water could cause permanent damage which is not covered by the warranty.
WATER HEATER: PREPARATION FOR WINTER:
Drain the water heater and make sure that there is no water that can freeze in the tank during the winter. Replace the drain plug in the spring before restarting. SAFETY Make sure that the water heater is off before performing the internal checks. Do not put more than one water heater on the same line / Could decrease water pressure and flow and cause serious damage. Replacement of parts only with original parts. This unit requires a water flow of 35 gallon minutes.
GUARANTEE OF THE WATER HEATER::
THIS WATER HEATER IS GUARANTEED FOR A PERIOD OF 2 YEARS AGAINST ANY MANUFACTURING DEFECTS (EXCEPT FOR THE HEATING ELEMENTS).
