While Russia wages an active war against Ukraine, there is a cold war happening between it and the United States and in another episode of this cold war, Russian-backed hackers tried to breach the Microsoft System again.
The hacker group goes by the name of Midnight Blizzard and is allegedly sponsored by the Russian State and it is not their first attack on the United States and its entities. Microsoft is one of the biggest exporters of software in the world and the United States government and military are one of its biggest clients, relying heavily on its infrastructure and the services it provides.
It was back in January when these hackers last tried to hack Microsoft and were allegedly able to siphon a small amount of corporate email account information, which included email accounts of senior leadership, cybersecurity experts in the company as well as other departments.
Microsoft says that the data that was stolen in the previous breach by the hackers is being used now to infiltrate Microsoft again. Some of the data stolen in the breach is sensitive and even includes some of the source code for Microsoft products.
To remedy the situation Microsoft is contacting everyone that is affected and taking necessary precautions. The Russian Embassy in The United States however has refused to comment on the ongoing situation.
