Here’s how you can get through the early hours of the MMO New World.
Playing an MMO for the first time can be daunting for a number of reasons. There is more often than not a lot of different features that we need to get our heads around, and New World is no exception to that rule. If you’ve just started out with a New World account, here’s a few tips on what you can do to survive.
About Factions
One of the main features that you need to learn about is factions in New World. As you progress through the story, you will come across the factions known as The Covenant, The Marauders and The Syndicate. You can tell them apart thanks to a few different factors, such as the banners they carry and what the values are that they hold.
Besides that, you won’t find all that many differences between the factions, especially where the gameplay is concerned. You can expect to get the same rewards and such from each of the factions, and all the shops are pretty much the same. Even so, you still need to take into consideration what faction you want to be with. After all, joining a Company will mean that you need members of the same faction.
Fast Traveling
Perhaps a trait just as frequent in similar games is the ability to fast travel. However, New World doesn’t just offer you this from the off. You will have to meet certain requirements to make fast travel work for you. That said, you can fast travel to settlements without having to spend your New World coins.
To do this, you have to check into the nearby Inn of the settlement. This will be the place in which you can fast travel to going forward. All you have to do then is click on the Inn near the settlement that you want to travel to and you’ll be good to go. The option to Recall to Inn will also be able to bring you back from wherever you may be back to that Inn for free. This can be vital to your survival if you find yourself in a sticky situation.
Alternatively, you can travel to settlements that you have visited before. Travelling between settlements is going to set you back in Azoth, and prices can start to build up. At a settlement, you can keep an eye out for New World items of interest via the supply carts as well. These are effective for looting whilst you’re in the area.
Use Autorunning
One thing that is lacking from this MMO sadly is mounts. There will be no reason for us to buy New World coins in exchange for some kind of otherworldly beast, but there are alternatives to consider. There is a bit of a saving grace here, especially when you consider the sheer amount of walking that you have to do.
By pressing the ‘=’ key, you will start using a feature referred to as autorun. By having this applied, it frees you up to focus on other movement controls. Since we are without a sprint option as well, this is the next best thing. It might not work as well as other similar titles when it comes to movement, but this is your best option.
Salvage Unwanted Items
Sooner than later, you will be picking up gradually better gear. Start making your way through the first handful of quests and such, and you will soon start seeing that you have surplus gear that you have no desire to keep. When you do get to this point, you should then start to salvage your older gear.
Doing so will give you access to repair kits that will keep your higher-level items ticking over. With that in mind, try to salvage old items as often as you can. It might not seem efficient right now, buy you will thank yourself further down the line when you are trying to keep your higher tier items in check.
This is a good alternative to selling your gear. The reason that this is important is that when you sell items in New World you will be setting up a sell order. The market is player-based, meaning that you aren’t really going to have anything to offer other players in terms of selling.
By taking these tips into account, you will soon be finding yourself easing into New World nicely. You’ll be racking up those New World coins and establishing yourself in this popular MMO much quicker this way.
